Performance SmArts Podcast

EPISODE 2

Guest: Brian Radock

I first met Brian Radock about 24 years ago as his cabin counselor at Interlochen Arts Summer Camp, and he and I clicked right away! He was 12, I was 19. The next year, I requested him in my cabin, along with any other “trouble campers” or whatever negative term was used for our tribe of humanity at the time. Fast forward all these years, and Brian has done everything from playing with Jennifer Hudson and Lauren Daigle at Carnegie Hall to earning his own Broadway Seat for the production, The Illusionist.

His story is not relatable to anyone, and also is completely relatable to everyone who has a love of the arts, specifically in collaborative performing arts. Enjoy our conversation!

EPISODE 1

Guest: Brian Barnett

Brian Barnett is among my oldest friends and biggest early influences in musical theater. He has lit stages all over the world, and I am thrilled that he happened to be in Defiance so that we could record this conversation!

We speak about our love of theaters, technology in the performing arts industry, and about the Defiance Community Auditorium, the building that launched both of our professional careers. Brian is kind enough to travel back to NW Ohio twice a year to do the light design for the Fort Defiance Players and the Defiance High School musicals, pro bono. I enjoy telling my students that it will be a long time before they look that good under lights, and to be sure to be appreciative of all of the technical players in our craft. I hope you enjoy the conversation!
